Spicy Peshawari Meat Curry Recipe from Karachi Darbar

A Peshawari curry order is pretty much mandatory when we eat out at a Pakistani joint, so when I found this recipe posted in Gulf News I had to give it a go. Moreover, this recipe is a contribution from Karachi Darbar, arguably UAE's most popular Pakistani joint; can't go wrong with that!

The recipe originally calls for mutton, but I used beef instead.

Mutton Peshawari Kadai Recipe:
Serves 4 - 6 people
1 kg mutton (or beef)
250 grams ghee or oil
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
50 grams ginger paste
50 grams garlic paste
1 kg tomatoes cut into halves
3 tbsp yoghurt
2 tbsp chilli flakes
1 tsp coriander seeds, crushed
1 tsp black pepper, crushed
3 big green chillies, halved
Fresh coriander & ginger, chopped - for garnish

1) Fry meat, then add salt, ginger & garlic. Cook on medium flame till meat is half tender.

2) Add tomatoes & yoghurt, mix well. Cover & cook on low flame till tomatoes are soft.

3) Mix well on high flame for 15-20 minutes. Add chilli flakes & wait till water evaporates & oil comes up to the top.

4) Add coriander, black pepper & green chillies. Simmer on low for 10-15 mins.

5) Garnish with coriander & ginger. Serve with raita & naan (I served it with plain white rice).

Here's a pic of my attempt, and the verdict was pretty positive too!
